A Reliable Solar Solution for Continuous Cold Storage and Ice Production
This project is located in Djibouti, where the customer was facing frequent power outages that seriously affected daily production. For a business operating an ice-making machine and cold storage, an unstable power supply can cause production interruptions and make 24-hour refrigeration difficult.
With abundant sunshine in Djibouti, the customer decided to make better use of solar energy and install a 75kW hybrid solar system with 120kWh battery storage. The system was designed to provide a more reliable power supply while reducing the customer’s dependence on an unstable grid.
The system includes 98 pieces of 600W solar panels, with a total solar capacity of 58.8kW, together with a SUN-75K-SG01HP3-EU-EM6 hybrid inverter and 120kWh of battery storage. The system is mainly used to power an 18.4kW ice-making machine and a 3HP cold storage system.
During the daytime, solar energy can directly supply the customer’s loads while charging the batteries. When solar power is insufficient or the grid goes down, the battery system provides backup power to keep the important loads running. This hybrid configuration helps the customer maintain stable operation even during power outages.
After installation and commissioning, the system has been running successfully. The cold storage can operate 24 hours a day, while the ice-making machine operates for around 12 hours per day. The customer is now able to maintain production much more reliably without being heavily affected by frequent grid interruptions.
This project shows how a hybrid solar system can provide a practical solution for businesses in areas with unreliable electricity. By combining solar power, battery storage, and grid power, the customer can achieve a more stable energy supply, reduce the impact of power outages, and keep essential equipment operating continuously.
For customers with cold storage, ice-making machines, factories, or other high-power loads, a properly designed hybrid solar system can provide reliable backup power while making full use of the abundant solar resources available in Djibouti.
