Located in Lagos, Nigeria, this project was designed to solve a common challenge faced by many businesses in the region: unstable grid electricity and frequent power outages. For hotels in particular, a reliable power supply is essential to maintain guest comfort and ensure daily operations run smoothly. Before installing the solar system, this hotel relied heavily on diesel generators whenever the grid failed. This not only led to high fuel expenses but also created significant noise, especially at night, which negatively affected the guest experience. In addition, during some outages the hotel had to limit the use of high-power equipment such as air conditioners, making it difficult to provide a consistent level of service.
To address these issues, Tanfon designed and installed a 100kW hybrid solar power system combined with a 215kWh lithium battery storage system. The system integrates 168 high-efficiency 600W solar panels and two S6-EH3P50K-H three-phase hybrid inverters, creating a reliable and flexible power solution for the hotel. In order to maximize solar energy production, the solar modules were installed on both the hotel rooftop and the carport roof, effectively utilizing the available space to generate as much electricity as possible during the daytime.
During the day, the solar panels generate electricity to power the hotel’s daily loads while also charging the battery system. When the grid experiences outages or when solar production decreases at night, the 215kWh battery storage system provides stable backup power. This hybrid design ensures that the hotel can maintain continuous operation even when the city grid becomes unreliable.
After the installation of the solar power system, the hotel is now able to maintain a stable 24-hour electricity supply. Even during grid outages, essential equipment such as lighting, appliances, and especially air conditioning systems can continue operating normally. This greatly improves the comfort of hotel guests and allows the hotel to maintain consistent service standards.
Compared with the previous reliance on diesel generators, the solar system brings several important advantages. It significantly reduces fuel consumption and operating costs, while also eliminating the loud noise associated with generator use at night. The quieter environment improves the overall guest experience, and the hotel can now provide reliable air conditioning even during power interruptions.
This project demonstrates how a hybrid solar system with battery storage can provide a practical and cost-effective energy solution for hotels in regions with unstable electricity infrastructure. By making full use of rooftop space and integrating solar power with energy storage, the hotel has successfully reduced its dependence on diesel generators while ensuring uninterrupted power for its operations. Tanfon continues to deliver customized solar energy solutions for hotels, factories, and commercial buildings around the world, helping businesses achieve reliable and sustainable power.
