Located just 500 meters from Douala International Airport, this famous 5-star hotel in Cameroon is a high-energy-demand commercial facility that requires a reliable power supply throughout the day and night. With large numbers of guests, hotel facilities, and two large wedding halls, stable electricity is essential for daily operations and major events.
The hotel consumes approximately 2,000–3,000 kWh of electricity every day. Its existing power infrastructure includes a 630kVA transformer and a 400kW diesel generator, providing backup power when needed. However, the hotel’s high electricity demand and reliance on diesel backup make energy costs an important operational consideration.
For a hotel, power interruptions can affect much more than daily lighting. Air conditioning, refrigeration, elevators, lighting, kitchen equipment, guest rooms, and event facilities all require continuous electricity. During large events, an unexpected power outage can also seriously affect the guest experience.
To improve power reliability and reduce dependence on diesel generation, TANFON is installing a 700kWh solar-powered Energy Storage System (ESS) for the hotel. The system is designed to store solar energy and provide power when needed, helping the hotel maintain a more stable energy supply while reducing the use of the diesel generator.
The large-capacity ESS can work together with the hotel’s existing power infrastructure to support daily electricity consumption and provide backup power during grid interruptions. This gives the hotel greater flexibility in managing its energy and helps ensure reliable electricity for guests, staff, and large events.
The project is designed with three key goals: reliable power, lower fuel consumption, and cleaner energy. By introducing energy storage and solar power into the hotel’s existing energy system, the project can reduce diesel generator operating time and help lower fuel costs and the impact of power outages.
For a landmark 5-star hotel in Douala, this 700kWh ESS project demonstrates how modern solar and energy storage technology can support high-demand hospitality facilities. The solution provides cleaner, quieter, and more efficient energy, while helping the hotel build a more reliable and sustainable power system for its daily operations and future events.
